U6

Our youngest group of players and our only co-ed group!

Our U6 ethos is to introduce kids to the sport and maximize touches on the ball.

Schedule

Last Monday of August: MOD Kick-Off

Our MOD Kick-Off brings coaches and teams together and meet before the first official practice or game. After learning names (and handing out uniforms, pending their arrival), teams play a few games to get excited about the season ahead.

Practices

U6 practices are held one weeknight per week between 4:00pm and 7:00pm at Lawton Park (see field information below). Practices are one hour long, with the option to shorten to 45 minutes as it gets dark earlier. Practices are based entirely on our volunteer coach schedules and are not determined until a team has been formed. We are not able to accommodate players switching teams if a practice time does not work for their family's schedule. Attendance at practice has no impact on game-day playing time.

Games

U6 games are held on Saturdays at Lawton Park between 9:00am and 3:00pm. The schedule is released at the end of August.

Last Sunday in October: MOD World Cup

Our last official MOD event is the World Cup at Interbay Stadium on the last Sunday of October. All MOD teams play three shortened matches back-to-back. U6 is typically scheduled to take the field between 8:00am and 11:00am. We recommend families arrive early for their scheduled spot due to limited parking and to not miss the parade!

Field

All U6 practices and games are played at Lawton Park, uphill from Lawton Elementary at the end of the cul-de-sac on 27th Ave W.

SYSA background checked adults and players may be on the inside of the field. All other spectators that have not undergone training and background checks must be on the outside of the fields (see image). This is for insurance purposes and for player safety.

Coaches

Like our players, many of our U6 coaches are beginners! Our U6 coaches should focus on teaching the sport through games and play in addition to drills.

We encourage our U6 coaches to be on the field with the players for both games and practices and to be in constant communication with players while maintaining a positive attitude.

Below are optional practice plans, courtesy of SYSA.
