MAGNOLIA SOCCER CLUB
MOD Referees
For every MOD (ages U6-U9) game played in the fall, a youth referee will be assigned and paid to officiate. MOD Referees are between 9 and 12 years old and are currently registered to play with a MSC team.
Referees 13 years and older cannot participate in our MOD referee program, but can train to be an Association Referee via Seattle Soccer Referees Association. Register to join SSRA here.
Starting in the 2026 season:
U6 and U7 games will be reffed by a Junior Referee. Junior Referees are U10 or above, typically in their first season reffing with Magnolia Soccer Club. U6 and U7 matches pay $10/match.
U8 and U9 games will be reffed by a Senior Referee. Senior Referees are U11 or above and require additional trainings. U8 and U9 matches pay $15/match.
Before becoming a MOD Referee, players must attend at least one training session with our MOD Referee Coordinator in August or September. Parents of the players who attend trainings will be contacted with links to sign up to our Third Party site: VSP.
Refs should plan to where cleats and shin guards to their games (all registered MSC players are required to wear shin guards and cleats on the field), a black, black and white, or MSC shirt, and bring a whistle.
MOD Referees should plan to only ref one game per weekend. Referees will be paid after the season ends, in late November or early-mid December.
On a game day, Referees should plan to:
-
Arrive 5-10 minutes early
-
Find your correct field and teams
-
Introduce yourself to the coaches
-
Cleat, shin guard, and jewelry check
Referees should feel inclined to speak loudly, blow their whistle, and take charge of all MOD games.
