Coaches

Our coaches are parent volunteers who are enthusiastic about kids’ soccer! Each fall, the Club has 100+ first time or returning volunteer coaches. Coaching is a great way to support the kids, community, and Club while having fun and supporting your kids!

In addition to being an involved parent and getting to play with the kids, coaches…

•get to choose practice times! Make your kid’s practice work around your schedule!

•receive swag from the Magnolia Soccer Club!

•participate in fun activities like Coach Appreciation Week and Coaches' Night Out!

Additionally, coaches coaching more than one team (if you have 2+ kids registered)…

•have first pick of practice times!

•never have two kids’ games at the same time!

The Magnolia Soccer Club wants coaches to know that we appreciate their volunteer work so much and we want to make sure that coaches feel taken care of as essential members of our recreational soccer community!

Medical Release Forms

Every player must have a signed medical release form on file with the coach before they participate in any team activities. Coaches must keep these with them at all team events, in case of emergency.

MSC encourages all coaches to complete the free United States Soccer Federation (USSF) coaching course titled:

Introduction to Grassroots Coaching

Coaches who continue their learning by completing any of the 4v4, 7v7, 9v9, or 11v11 Grassroots courses will be reimbursed for the $25 course fee by MSC. Email a receipt to our Treasurer for reimbursement.

MOD Referees

For every MOD (ages U6-U9) game played in the fall, a youth referee will be assigned and paid to officiate. MOD referees must be at least 3 years older than the teams they are refereeing, meaning that they are between ages 8-12 years old. Referees 13 years and older can’t participate in our MOD referee program, but can train to be an Association Referee.

Before becoming a MOD Referee, players must attend at least one training session with our MOD Referee Coordinator in August or September. Parents of the players who attend trainings will be contacted with links to sign up to our Third Party site, VSP.

Refs should plan to where cleats and shin guards to their games (all registered MSC players are required to wear shin guards and cleats on the field), a black, black and white, or MSC shirt, and bring a whistle.

MOD Referees are paid $10 per game and $15 per World Cup game. MOD Referees should plan to only ref one game per weekend. Referees will be paid after the season ends, in late November or early-mid December.

On a game day, Referees should plan to:

  1. Arrive 5-10 minutes early

  2. Find your correct field and teams

  3. Introduce yourself to the coaches

  4. Cleat, shin guard, and jewelry check

Referees should feel inclined to speak loudly, blow their whistle, and take charge of all MOD games.
